Its love in the protozoan world! This is Giardia Lamblia, caught in the act of dividing into two new protozoa. Protozoa are single celled organisms which have the power to move - in this case the long, thing ‘arms’ entwinned in the picture are called flagella, which the protozoan uses to swim.
Don’t get too attached to this though, if you were to drink contaminated water, you would likely get a disease called giadiasis, which is accompanied by diarrhea! Lovely. Protozoa are responsible for other diseases like malaria and sleeping sickness (although not this type).
What better way to show you love someone than with a picture of a diarrhea causing protozoan in the act of replicating? I can’t think of one!
